CRAFTING EXCELLENCE
FROM HERITAGE
_
The Brig & Barq story began with the Bigelow family and their long history of shipbuilding in Nova Scotia, dating back over a century and spanning several generations.
In 1838, Ebenezer Biglow followed in his father’s footsteps and established his own shipyard in the village of Canning, building all sorts of sailing ships, from schooners to full ship square-riggers. The most common types of ships being built were brigantines and barques (or brigs and barqs, as they were often known).
These vessels traded along the east coast of Canada and the United States, as well as the very popular and lucrative Caribbean routes. Ebenezer’s shipyard became a notable part of the local economy, contributing significantly to the maritime industry in Nova Scotia. We are proud to celebrate the heritage of our Nova Scotia roots with our authentic craft beer.
OUR BREWING PROCESS
Traditional methods with modern innovations to produce beers that are both timeless and contemporary. We are Authentic Nova Scotian Craft Beer.
The style choices and recipe design reflect over a decade of industry analysis. The products have been designed to cater to the unique tastes of Nova Scotians, a palette that’s different from other regions in Canada. Our beers are authentically Nova Scotian because the voice of the province has influenced every decision. We don’t even name a beer without community input.
